Jewelry Techniques Module 3

Course Description

Module 3 builds on the knowledge acquired in modules 1 and 2 by introducing new techniques that will help students advance and evolve technically. In this module, students have the option to create earrings, a pendant, or a slave bracelet. Students will learn and apply the granulation technique and make a box for a cabochon stone. This exercise will enhance their control over soldering and fire and provide new knowledge to combine with creativity in their pieces. Max # Students: 3 Prerequisite Requirements: Module 1 & 2 Language: English and Portuguese Learning Level: Beginner Max # Students: 3 Duration: Meets weekly for 4 hours each Monday, for 4 weeks (16 hours total) Course Objective: to build upon the foundational skills learned in Module 1 and 2 by introducing more advanced jewelry-making techniques and creating more complex pieces Finished Project Piece: 1 Pair of earrings or pendant or slave bracelet Activities We Will Cover: Design and prepare material to make earrings / pendant or slave bracelet: • Design / Prepare elements o Construction of elements • Draw wire / Gauge wire for granules / Make Granules / Solder / Three-Dimensionalize / Set Cabachon stone / Finishing What's Included in the Price: • • Use of studio machinery and equipment • • Use of individual and shared tools • • Wear material (the material that undergoes gradual removal or deformation due to mechanical or chemical processes) • • Raw copper or brass metals, subject to availability • • Personal accident insurance during class hours Class What's Not Included in the Price: • Silver raw material (Approximate 20€ - 80€) • All pieces made by the student are weighed at the end of the module, and the cost of the silver metal will be charged per gram, approximately €2 per gram.
